Jinan, March 14th (Xinhua) — In recent years, the Shandong Provincial Coalfield Geological Bureau has focused on key areas such as the Yellow River North Rich Iron Mine, Jiaodong Gold Mine, and Salt Chamber Energy Storage Reservoir to solve key detection technology difficulties and integrate core technologies, achieving original technological breakthroughs and forming a vertical detection technology system. Conduct experiments and demonstrations in key areas such as important mining areas, energy storage development prospects, major geological hazard zones, and coal mine safety production zones to form deep exploration demonstration bases.

On March 14th, the People’s Government of Shandong Province held a press conference to introduce the province’s efforts to promote high-quality development of geological undertakings and accelerate the construction of a high-level emergency rescue system. The reporter obtained the above information on site.

According to Yang Ping, Chief Economist and Second level Inspector of Shandong Coalfield Geological Bureau, the bureau has innovatively proposed the “coal iron co basin” mineralization theory of coal and iron coexisting in coal bearing strata, focusing on the strategic mineral resources of rich iron deposits. It has established the “Yucheng style” mineralization model of cross regional migration and composite stacking mineralization, and for the first time discovered large-scale thick layer rich iron deposits in coal bearing strata of the Carboniferous Permian, opening up new space for mineral exploration.

Yang Ping said that by using earthquakes and wide area electromagnetic detection to identify minerals and non minerals, the bureau has created a three-dimensional exploration technology system of “air ground well” for rich iron deposits in deep coverage areas, breaking through the limitations of traditional iron ore exploration relying solely on gravity and magnetic methods, solving the problem of accurate identification and positioning detection of deep rich iron ore bodies, achieving a breakthrough in the exploration of rich iron deposits in Qihe Yucheng, and pioneering China’s search for rich iron deposits in deep coverage areas.

In terms of innovative drilling construction technology, the research on drilling construction technology in the deep coverage area of Yucheng Rich Iron Mine in Dezhou has been successful, effectively solving the construction difficulties under complex geological conditions and increasing drilling efficiency by more than twice. Yang Ping stated that the application of innovative methods such as optimizing construction parameters and composite directional drilling technology has significantly improved construction quality and drilling efficiency.

The theory and key technological innovation of rich iron ore exploration in deep coverage areas won the second prize of National Natural Resources Science and Technology, and two independently developed deep exploration technology achievements obtained national invention patents.

It is reported that the Shandong Provincial Coalfield Geological Bureau has implemented multiple provincial cooperation projects around the Qihe Yucheng Rich Iron Mine integrated exploration area in Dezhou, with a cumulative exploration of more than 49 million tons of resources, exceeding half of the cumulative exploration of resources in the integrated exploration area and ranking first among all participating units.

In the Jiaodong gold mining area, we conducted a series of two-dimensional seismic explorations around the three main controlling faults, implementing China’s first three-dimensional seismic exploration of gold mines, revealing the relationship between the occurrence of gold mineralization zones and seismic attributes, and predicting favorable locations for gold mineralization. According to Yang Ping, the bureau also successfully applied deep earth exploration technology to abandoned salt cavern energy storage, achieving the analysis and identification of salt cavern characteristics at a depth of nearly 1000 meters underground and precise carving of three-dimensional shapes, providing a basis for the selection of compressed air energy storage power stations, turning ecological “burdens” into green “wealth”.

According to statistics from the Shandong Provincial Coalfield Geological Bureau, in 2023, the bureau will discover 9 new mineral deposits and submit 4.27 billion tons of coal resources, of which 2.52 billion tons will be newly registered, equivalent to 42% of the national registered resources and ranking among the top two in the same industry in China. At the same time, the bureau has taken the lead in providing full lifecycle services for mines nationwide, providing technical support for the safe mining of 33.9 billion tons of coal and increasing the annual production of coalbed methane and natural gas by 80 million cubic meters.
